Handmade product pricing calculator

Pay yourself for your time. Enter what goes into one item and the calculator builds a cost-based wholesale price and a retail price, then shows what Etsy or TikTok Shop fees take at that price and the lowest price that still covers your costs.

This calculator estimates one order. PayoutPeek reads your real Etsy monthly statement in your browser (nothing uploaded) and shows every fee, deposit and product’s profit. Pro adds per-product profit with your costs, deposit breakdowns and 12 months at once.

The pricing formula

This is the classic cost-plus approach many makers use. Your cost per item includes your own labor at an hourly rate, so you are paid for your time before the business earns a profit. Wholesale adds a profit percentage on top; retail is a multiple of wholesale (2× is a common starting point) so you could sell to shops at wholesale and still make money.

labor = hours × hourly rate cost = materials + packaging + labor + overhead wholesale = cost × (1 + profit %) retail = wholesale × multiplier you keep = retail − platform fees at that price

Platform fees at your price

Selling online, fees come out of the retail price. The calculator applies Etsy’s US fees ($0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing, plus Offsite Ads if chosen) or TikTok Shop’s referral fee and any creator commission, and finds two useful prices: the lowest price that covers your full cost after fees (break-even), and the lowest price that still leaves you your wholesale amount after fees. Shipping is left out: it assumes you charge shipping separately to cover postage. Worked example

$6 of materials, $1 of packaging, 1.5 hours at $20/hour ($30) and $2 overhead make a $39.00 cost. With 20% profit, wholesale is $46.80 and retail at 2× is $93.60. On Etsy, fees at $93.60 are $9.34 ($0.20 + $6.08 + $3.06), so you keep $84.26, which is $45.26 above your cost.

Choosing your numbers

Time yourself making a batch and divide, rather than guessing. Include overhead such as equipment, studio space, software and your Etsy or TikTok subscriptions, spread over how many items you make in a month. The multiplier and profit percentage are business choices; compare your result with similar items before settling on a price.

Common questions

How do I price handmade items?

Add up materials, packaging, your labor (hours times an hourly rate) and a share of overhead to get your cost. Add a profit percentage for a wholesale price, then multiply wholesale (often by 2) for retail. Check what platform fees leave you at that price.

What is the formula for wholesale and retail price?

A common formula is wholesale = (materials + labor + overhead) × (1 + profit %), and retail = wholesale × 2. The calculator lets you change both the profit percentage and the multiplier.

Should I include my time in the price?

Yes. If labor isn’t in your cost, your “profit” is really your wage, and the price won’t work if you ever pay someone else to help.

How much do Etsy fees take from a handmade sale?

For a US shop, about 10% of a typical order without ads: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing. An Offsite Ads order adds 12% or 15%.
