The TikTok Shop referral fee

TikTok Shop US charges one referral fee per completed order, which TikTok says covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax, so there is no separate payment processing fee. The formula TikTok publishes is rate × (customer payment + platform discount − tax), and TikTok states the base includes the shipping fee the customer pays. In plain terms: your item price, minus any discount you fund, plus the shipping the buyer pays. Discounts TikTok funds are added back, so they don’t lower your fee. Published rates by category (US)

TikTok’s category table lists 6% for almost every category. Five fine-jewelry subcategories (diamond, gold, jade, platinum/carat gold, and ruby, sapphire & emerald) are 5%. Pre-Owned categories are 5% and Collectibles 6%, with 3% on any portion of a sale over $10,000. New-seller promotions and individual agreements can differ, so the rate box is editable: use the rate shown in your Seller Center. Creator commission

If a creator sells your item through the affiliate program, you pay the commission rate you set. TikTok calculates it on the revenue from the item, net of refunds. In settlement reports this is the product price after your own discount, without shipping or tax, which is the calculator’s default; tick the option if your agreement differs. Worked example

A $30.00 item with $6.00 shipping paid by the buyer, in a 6% category, sold through a creator at 15% commission: referral fee 6% × $36.00 = $2.16, creator commission 15% × $30.00 = $4.50, total fees $6.66. With a $9.00 item cost and a $5.50 label, profit is $14.84 (41.2%). TikTok’s own example: a customer pays $102 including $2 tax with a $5 TikTok-funded discount, so the fee is 6% × ($102 + $5 − $2) = $6.30.

Refunds

When an order is refunded, TikTok returns the referral fee minus a refund administration fee of 20% of that referral fee, capped at $5 per SKU. This calculator models a completed, non-refunded order. Source: TikTok Shop Academy (US): TikTok Shop Referral Fee Updates.

What is the TikTok Shop referral fee in the US?

TikTok’s published table lists 6% for most categories, 5% for five fine-jewelry subcategories and Pre-Owned, and 3% on the portion of a Collectibles or Pre-Owned sale over $10,000. Check Seller Center for the rate on your products.

Does TikTok Shop charge a payment processing fee?

Not separately in the US. TikTok says the referral fee encompasses all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax.

Is shipping included in the TikTok Shop referral fee?

Yes. TikTok states that the referral fee calculation base includes the shipping fee paid by the customer.

Is the referral fee charged on sales tax?

No. TikTok’s formula subtracts tax: rate × (customer payment + platform discount − tax).

Are affiliate commissions included in the referral fee?

No. Creator commissions are a separate cost you set when you offer a product to creators. Enter your commission rate to include it.
